Do you believe that you have to fight for what you get in life? Were you taught that life is, first and foremost, an unending struggle? If we do, this may be one of those beliefs we want to re-frame, especially if it is holding us back from attaining the one thing we all want – happiness.
Whenever you feel a sense of struggle, of pressure tempting you to react with anxiety or even panic, ask yourself, “How would I be seeing or doing this differently, if I was willing to let it be easy? If I was willing to let go of the struggle?”
As you consider an easier way to approach the situation, you will probably find a sense of peace and freedom comes over you. From this perspective, you can usually see the way out. Many of us have been imprinted with the belief that life is a struggle. We have to work hard to earn a living and support ourselves and our families. Suffering and sacrifice are the only things that buy happiness. Fortunately, none of this is true.
The glory of life is to live in graceful celebration, with gratitude for who we are and what we have. To enjoy peace requires no loss whatsoever. Life is here to be enjoyed and appreciated. Struggle is a sure sign that you are moving against your blessings. Peace is not a victory we can ever win by battle. If you are fighting for anything, you are at war. Peace is a natural gift that we accept by opening our hearts and letting go of the struggle.
When Albert Einstein was asked, “What is the most important question facing humankind?” he answered with another question: “Is the universe a friendly place?”
Our little corner of the universe seems to be a bit fractious right now, but it doesn’t have to be a struggle. Yes, some areas of the world are suffering, but we have the brains, the creativity, the tools to change that. By changing the way we think, what we set ourselves up to perceive, we do change the way we act. It’s all in our mindset.
